How to Find a Samsung Galaxy Model Code (and Why It Matters for Parts)

Two phones can both be called a “Galaxy A14 5G” and still need different parts. The name on the box isn't enough — the model code is. Here's how to read it, where to find it, and why it matters before you order Samsung parts.

What a Samsung model code looks like

Samsung model codes start with SM-, followed by a letter for the product line, a number for the model, and one or more letters at the end for the variant. A few examples from our catalogue:

  • SM-S918B — Galaxy S23 Ultra
  • SM-S928B — Galaxy S24 Ultra
  • SM-A146P — Galaxy A14 5G
  • SM-A057F — Galaxy A05s

The letter after SM- tells you the product line:

Letter Product line
S Galaxy S (e.g. S918B = S23 Ultra)
A Galaxy A (e.g. A146P = A14 5G)
F Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip
N Galaxy Note
X, T, P Galaxy Tab (e.g. X200 = Tab A8, P610 = Tab S6 Lite)

Why the last letter matters

The letter or letters at the end identify the variant — the version built for a particular market or chipset. Phones sold under the same name can come in more than one variant, and the internal hardware isn't always the same.

The Galaxy A14 5G is a good example: it exists as both the SM-A146B and the SM-A146P. When variants use different internal hardware, parts such as charging port boards and screens may not interchange between them. That's why our product titles include the model code wherever it matters — for example, our Galaxy A16 5G screens are listed as the AU “P version”.

The rule of thumb: match the full model code, including the last letter, before you order.

How to find the model code

1If the phone turns on: go to Settings → About phone. The model number is shown there, for example SM-A146P.
2If the screen is dead: check the original box label or the customer's purchase paperwork. On many models the code is also printed in small text on the back of the phone.
3Write it on the job ticket as soon as the phone comes in. It saves a second look when it's time to order the part.

Quick checklist before ordering Samsung parts

  • Match the full model code, including the last letter
  • For screens with frames and for back glass, check the colour
