How to Find an OPPO Model Number (and Why 4G vs 5G Matters for Parts)

An OPPO A78 4G and an OPPO A78 5G have the same name on the box, but they don't take the same screen. One has an AMOLED panel, the other an LCD of a different size. With OPPO, the name isn't enough to order parts. The model code is. Here's how to find it and what it tells you.

What an OPPO model code looks like

OPPO phones sold in Australia have a model code that starts with CPH followed by four digits, for example CPH2483. Unlike Samsung codes, the digits don't follow a pattern you can decode. Each code simply belongs to one phone, so the code is what you match against the part.

If a code doesn't start with CPH (for example PFTM20 or PECM30), the phone was most likely made for the Chinese market and imported. More on those below.

Same name, different phone

OPPO often sells a 4G and a 5G phone under the same model name. They can be completely different phones inside. The A78 is the clearest example:

  • A78 4G (CPH2565): 6.43" AMOLED, FHD+, fingerprint reader under the screen
  • A78 5G (CPH2483): 6.56" LCD, HD+, fingerprint reader in the power button

The A78 4G screen is actually shared with the Find X5 Lite and Reno8 family, while the A78 5G screen is shared with the A58 5G and A17. Order by name alone and there's a good chance the part won't fit.

Different names, same phone

It works the other way too. A few OPPO phones were sold under different names in different countries:

  • A57s (CPH2385) is the same phone that's sold overseas as the A77 4G
  • Find X3 Lite (CPH2145) is the Australian name for the Reno5 5G

If a customer or a parts listing uses the overseas name, the model code is how you confirm you're talking about the same phone.

Common OPPO models at a glance

Codes and screen specs below are for the Australian versions. The last column shows which other models use the same screen in our catalogue.

Name on the phone Model code Screen Same screen as
A78 4G CPH2565 6.43" AMOLED, FHD+ Find X5 Lite, Reno8, Reno7 SE
A78 5G CPH2483 6.56" LCD, HD+ A58 5G, A17, A1X
A57 (2022) CPH2387 6.56" LCD, HD+ A77 5G, A57s
A57s CPH2385 6.56" LCD, HD+ A57, A77 (Smart Plus LCD)
A77 5G CPH2339 6.56" LCD, HD+ A57, A57s
A58 CPH2577 6.72" LCD, FHD+ A79 5G, A98 5G, Realme C67
A60 4G CPH2631 6.67" LCD, HD+ A60 5G, A40, A3X
A60 5G CPH2683 6.67" LCD, HD+ A60 4G, A40, A3X
A53 (2020) CPH2127 6.5" LCD, HD+ A32, A53s
Find X3 Lite CPH2145 6.43" AMOLED, FHD+ Reno5 5G, Reno5 4G

Notice the A60: here the 4G and 5G versions do share a screen. That's why it pays to check each model rather than assume 4G and 5G are always different, or always the same.

Imported OPPO phones

Some 5G versions were made mainly for China and never officially sold here, but they still turn up in Australian repair shops. Their codes don't start with CPH: the A57 5G is PFTM20, for example, and the A53 5G is PECM30.

Don't assume an import takes the same parts as the Australian phone with the same name. The A53 5G has a higher-resolution FHD+ screen than the Australian A53 (2020), and it shares its screen with the A72 5G and Realme 7 5G instead. See A53 5G parts.

How to find the model code

1If the phone turns on: go to Settings → About device (About phone on older versions) and look for Model, for example CPH2483. If you can't see it, search Settings for “Model”. Ignore the Device name, because the owner can change it to anything.
2If the screen is dead: check the label on the original box, which shows the model number with the IMEI, or the customer's receipt or phone plan paperwork.
3No box? Check the fingerprint reader. A reader under the screen means an OLED panel, because LCDs can't support one. A reader in the power button or on the back usually means an LCD model. On the A78, that alone tells the 4G from the 5G.
4Write it on the job ticket as soon as the phone comes in, so you don't have to look again when you order.

Fitting an LCD to an OLED phone?

For OLED models such as the A78 4G and Find X3 Lite, our Smart Plus LCD screens are the budget option, but the under-screen fingerprint reader won't work with them. Tell the customer before the job, or quote an OLED option as well. See how to choose a screen grade.

Quick checklist before ordering OPPO parts

  • Match the CPH model code, not just the name
  • Check whether it's the 4G or 5G version; they can take different screens
  • If the code doesn't start with CPH, treat it as an import and check parts by code
  • For screens with a frame, confirm the exact model, since frames are often model-specific even when the panel is shared
  • Not sure? Send us the model code and we'll check for you
