Google Pixel Battery Replacement Guide: Which Battery Fits Which Pixel (4a to 9 Pro XL)
Share
Google Pixel phones are popular battery jobs because the batteries wear quickly and the phones are otherwise still fast. The catch is that almost every Pixel model uses its own battery, and the "a" models in particular get mixed up with the main models. This guide lists the battery for each Pixel we stock and the things that go wrong on a Pixel battery swap.
Which battery goes in which Pixel
Check the model under Settings > About phone first. The "a" models (4a, 5a, 6a, 7a, 8a, 9a) are not the same as the base models and the batteries are not interchangeable.

The Pixel 6a and Pixel 7a batteries have the same 4306mAh capacity but are sold as separate parts. Order the one listed for the model in hand rather than assuming they swap.
When a Pixel needs a new battery
- The phone shuts down with charge still showing, or drops from 30% to 0% in minutes.
- The back glass or screen is lifting on one side. That is usually a swollen battery, and the phone should be opened as soon as possible.
- Battery health is not shown in older Pixel settings, so go by behaviour and age. Most Pixels two years or older with heavy use will benefit from a new battery.
What goes wrong on Pixel battery jobs
- Opening from the front. On every Pixel in this list the screen comes off first, not the back glass. The screen is glued to the frame, so heat the edges evenly and go slowly with a thin pick. Pixel OLED panels crack easily if you lever from the wrong side.
- The adhesive pull tabs tear. Pixel batteries are held with stretch-release strips that often snap. If one breaks, apply isopropyl alcohol under the battery edge, wait a minute and lift gently with a plastic card. Do not pry with metal against the battery.
- Fingerprint sensor after reassembly. On the Pixel 6, 7, 8 and 9 the fingerprint reader sits under the screen. If the screen flex is disturbed during the job and the fingerprint stops working, see our Pixel fingerprint calibration guide.
- Charge before testing. New batteries ship partly charged. Plug in for 10 minutes before the first boot so you are not chasing a false no-power fault.
- Re-seal the screen. Replace the screen adhesive so the phone keeps its water resistance and the panel does not lift later.
